Definition of an Open Relationship - What Is an Open Relationship?

What is the definition of an open relationship? What are the pros and cons of being in an open relationship? Is an open relationship right for you? How should you define and open relationship with your boyfriend?

An open relationship is like having it all with a guy. The definition of an open relationship means that you are in love with a guy, but the two of you also agree to see other people as well. This means that you may have multiple partners, but you always go home to your primary relationship. Some couples prefer to live life this way, but it is not a lifestyle for everyone. Here are some details regarding the definition of an open relationship.

Secondary Model

This is the category that most open relationships fall into to. This is where the man and the woman are committed to each other and in love, but each will have one or two secondary partners or relationships. However, this secondary relationship is not as strong or as committed as the first one.

Multiple Partners

In this type of relationship, all partners are considered to be equal. This can mean that a man has several women or a woman has several men partners. This combination of all will create one family and one committed relationship with each other. This model has some supporters, but it is not as popular as the secondary model. In addition, there is not the same level of commitment in a multiple partner's relationship as there is in the secondary model. This is because a person will consider themselves to be single no matter how many partners they actually are having a relationship with. As a result, one partner does not rise above another in terms of value. In addition, the partners are not allowed to consider themselves in a committed relationship.

Open relationships are certainly not for everyone and there are several things to consider if you are thinking of entering one with your boyfriend. One of the first things to consider when considering an open relationship is the motivation behind it. If you are considering dating other people only because you don't like the person you are with, then you should just end the relationship and look for someone new to date. In order to have a relationship such as this, it is important for both partners to communicate about their desires and fully discuss what they want out of an open relationship. Both partners must be on the same page and be committed to the entire experience. There must also be guidelines set between both partners about what they expect from each other and any rules that must be abided by. For example, both partners may insist on safe sex with someone else. In addition, there must be nothing but total honesty and trust between the two partners in order to go along with an open line of communication. This is the only way that a relationship such as this can work.
