First Date Etiquette 101

There is nothing like a first date. Mixed emotions of excitement and anxiety runs high as both work to impress. Just make sure not to make it obvious since you might look stupid and desperate. It is important though that you know how to read the clues and the hints in order to avoid awkward situations. It will be definitely mind boggling to figure out whether your date likes you, especially if you find your date more than just interesting. But no matter what circumstance you are in when you are out on a date, it is important that we know exactly how to behave on a first date.

Here are some basic rules:

1. On top of your list should be punctuality. It helps provide an impression that you are a mature and responsible adult. Plus, it is totally inconsiderate to make your date wait. Make sure to let your date know in case you would be a bit late. If you cannot make it and need to reschedule, then you must inform your date way ahead of time.

2. Be yourself but not setting aside good manners. Converse with your date but make sure not to overdo it. Talk about your day, family, friends, and your hobbies or experiences. Avoid giving out sex stories and potty humor.

3. Be a gentleman on your first date. Open the door for her and let her sit down first on the table. If you are a gal remember to avoid doing your make-up on the table for this is very rude.

4. Engage your date in a conversation in order to avoid dead air and awkward situations. Ask questions about him or her and be creative. This will allow your date to be comfortable. Remember not to go too far into more personal things about your date not unless he or she opens up to you about it.

5. You need to be attentive by learning the art of listening. Ask follow-up questions about what your date is talking about to show that you are listening. But never interrupt him or her. Let your date finish first before asking a question. Whether you are a guy or gal this is an important reminder on how to behave on a first date.

6. Wear appropriate attire for the place that you are going. Others do not really consider this to be of great importance but it will help you avoid awkward situations.

Remember how to behave on a first date properly and surely you will leave not just a good impression on your partner.
